Mohave County, Ariz. (KTNV) -- A 50-year-old Missouri man was arrested in Mohave County on Thursday after he attempted to get away from sheriff's deputies and injured a K9 officer.It began when dispatch received multiple 9-1-1 calls about a van that was be driven recklessly on Interstate 15 near the Beaver Dam and Arizona Strip.A sheriff's deputy observed the van driving 90 mph in a 55 mph zone, cutting other cars off.Deputies were able to stop the van at approximately 4:16 p.m. and made contact with the driver, Carl Eaves.A computer check revealed the van was stolen. As the deputies began to take Eaves into custody, he resisted. He kicked one of the officers in the chest and took off running into the desert toward the Virgin River.A K9 officer named Ecko was sent after him. Ecko was able to locate Eaves and was attempting to detain him. Eaves hit the dog in the head with a rock multiple times, cutting the dog.The sheriff's deputies were eventually able to arrest Eaves without further incident.Eaves was transported to a hospital in Mesquite to be treated for bite wounds. After treatment, he was booked into the Mesquite Jail.Echo was treated by a veterinarian in Mesquite and received several stitches in his head.During the investigation, a 19-year-old drunken male was discovered to be traveling with Eaves. The teenager told sheriff's deputies that Eaves furnished him with alcohol.Eaves is facing charges of aggravated assault of police officer, resisting arrest, animal cruelty, theft, providing alcohol to a minor, and reckless driving.
