Las Vegas, NV (KTNV) -- On Wednesday, the Las Vegas City Council could give the green light to move one step closer to getting a soccer stadium built downtown. At the City Council meeting, which starts at 9 a.m., city council members will consider a term sheet for a proposed stadium development at Symphony Park. Three city council members have already said they would vote yes, three others plan on voting no. At this point, City Councilwoman Lois Tarkanian is seen as the swing vote since she has not yet made up her mind. But as of Tuesday, she said she's leaning toward a no vote because of all the public money that would have to go into the stadium. Developer Findlay/Cordish is asking the city for subsidies of $3 million dollars a year for 30 years. Added up, that would be $90 million dollars. That money would come from hotel room tax revenues for city parks. "I think we reduced by a small amount the public monies, I just feel the need to reduce it further as far as the public monies are concerned," said City Councilwoman Tarkanian. If four city council members vote yes on the term sheet, it would clear the way for Cordish Companies and Findlay Sports and Entertainment to work to secure a Major League Soccer franchise to play at the stadium. If an MLS team is not secured, the stadium would not be built. Also, if the term sheet is approved a development agreement would still need City Council approval later this year.
