RENO, Nev. (AP) -- A state assemblyman wants to do what no Nevada high school team has been able to do for six years -- knock longtime Las Vegas high school football power Bishop Gorman out of the playoffs.Las Vegas Democrat Harvey Munford has requested a bill be drafted for the upcoming Legislature to ban the private Catholic school from the state football championships. Munford is a former college basketball star who was drafted by the Lakers and coached preps for 15 years in Clark County. He told the Reno Gazette-Journal Gorman has unfair advantages over public schools in terms of scholarships and recruiting. Gorman capped an undefeated season with a 70-28 victory over Sparks Reed High to claim its sixth straight title this year. Alums include Dallas Cowboy running back DeMarco Murray.

Las Vegas, NV (KTNV) -- Police are on the scene of a deadly crash.It happened around 12:40 p.m. on Saturday near Valley View Boulevard and Desert Inn Road. Police say the crash involved a car and a motorcyclist. The car was said to be traveling west near Desert Inn Road in attempting to make a left turn. A motorcyclist was heading north on Valley View when they collided. The impact was so severe that the car rolled on top of the motorcycle.The male motorcyclist and the male driver both died as a result.There was a also a woman in the passenger seat, and child in the backseat of the car. Their condition is unknown. They were taken to UMC Trauma. There are no other reported injuries.The coroner will release the names of the deceased upon notification of the family.Action News has a crew on the scene and will post updates as they are received.

ELY, Nev. (AP) -- A Nevada man has been arrested in Utah in the death of his 3-month-old son.Michael Curtis of McGill is being held at Utah's Salt Lake County Jail without bail awaiting extradition hearings to return him to Nevada. The 34-year-old Curtis was arrested in Salt Lake City on Monday, the same day his child died at Primary Children's Hospital there. White Pine County sheriff's deputies say an arrest warrant for open murder and child abuse was issued for Curtis after an investigation found the child suffered injuries to his brain, abdomen, rib cage and legs. The Ely Times reports (http://bit.ly/13mqyAY ) deputies responded Nov. 25 to an Ely hospital where the child was initially taken with a head injury. The infant was later transferred to the Utah hospital.

BELLINGHAM, Wash. (AP) -- The Washington state-based grocery chain Haggen Inc. plans to buy 146 Albertsons and Safeway stores in Washington, Oregon, California, Nevada and Arizona.The Bellingham Herald reports the sales are required under the federal review of Safeway's sale to an investment group that owns Albertsons.If Haggen's plans announced Friday get Federal Trade Commission approval, the Bellingham-based company would expand from 18 stores and 16 pharmacies in the Northwest to 164 stores and 106 pharmacies in the five states.Details of the deal haven't been released.This is the largest of several sales related to the $7.6 billion sale of Safeway to investors led by Cerberus Capital Management. Associated Food Stores is buying eight stores in Montana and Wyoming, Associated Wholesale Grocers is purchasing 12 stores in Texas, and Supervalu is buying two Albertsons stores in Everett and Woodinville, Washington.
