Las Vegas, NV (KTNV) - You may not be able to raise a glass on the Las Vegas strip much longer.Clark County commissioners are considering a ban on carrying glass bottles or glass containers along the resort corridor from Russell Road to Sahara Avenue. Commissioners are expected to introduce a measure on Tuesday. The proposal would still allow paper or plastic containers, or glass containers that are inside a closed bag with a receipt attached.Commissioner Chris Giunchigliani said the county first discussed the idea over a year ago but the concept is back at the forefront after the city of Las Vegas passed its own restrictions for areas downtown. The goal is to reduce litter and address safety concerns with broken glass."I think glass is a very dangerous object," said Herb Sutliff, who is visiting from Idaho. "You can cut your feet is someone throws it down and you're walking barefoot."But some convenience stores and liquor stores are not happy with the proposal.Barry Yost, a 7 Eleven franchisee on the strip, said the ban would not only impact sales of alcohol but also juice and iced coffees. Yost told Action News broken glass and litter from the containers has not been a problem on the strip. Another liquor store owner on the south end of the strip, who asked not to be named, worried the ban could put him out of business. While some beverage makers supply the drinks in cans, not all over those products, he said. Most people we spoke with on the strip supported the idea."I think people's safety should be the first concern," said strip visitor Muran Eidah.Commissioners are expected to set a public hearing, which could happen Sept. 16.

Las Vegas, NV (KTNV) -- The great weather in Las Vegas is one of the top reasons why our city is a top destination for Labor Day Weekend. The unofficial end to summer is almost over and that means visitors are packing up and heading home, while locals are making their way back. The majority of people traveling are driving, according to TripAdvisor.According to a survey done by the travel site, 68 percent opted for a Labor Day Weekend road trip, only 26 percent decided to fly.Gas prices may have played a part in that. There has been less pain at the pump this holiday weekend. In fact, gas prices haven't been this low over Labor Day Weekend since 2010.AAA reports the national average for regular gasoline is $3.43 a gallon. In the Las Vegas Valley, the average price for a gallon is $3.69."This has been a really empty weekend for us, surprisingly, cause it's Labor Day," said Katherine Yeh, who is visiting from California. "Pretty smooth sailing, there was not a lot of traffic. We got here and it took us like three hours from LA."Tourists have been packing into the valley all weekend long, bringing in hundreds of millions of dollars.Officials said we've seen a jump in foot traffic from last Labor Day, up now to about 313,000 visitors.
